Pulled Pork

Melt in your mouth tender, sweet and savory sauce, and seriously delectable, this pulled pork is the perfect recipe for an easy Sunday dinner or for a dinner party.

  • 1 (2-3) pound pork roast
  • 2 teaspoons salt to cover the pork roast
  • Pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 yellow onion diced
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 1 beer I prefer a dark beer, such as a porter or a stout
  • 3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne
  • 1/2 teaspoons salt for the sauce


  1. First, heat oven to 300 degrees.
  2. Then, heat 2 tablespoons oil in an oven-safe pot large enough to hold the pork butt. While the oil is heating up, sprinkle the salt and pepper on the pork butt.  Next, place the pork butt in the put and sear on each side.  It will take about 8-10 minutes.  Once each side is browned,take it out and put on a plate.If needed, add an extra tablespoon of olive oil.
  3. Then add the chopped onion and cook for about 5 minutes or until translucent.  Add minced garlic cloves and continue cooking for about 2 more minutes.Next, add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil.  Place the pork butt back in the pot with the sauce.  Place the pot in the oven and cook for 3-4 hours or until the meat is pull apart tender.Once the pork is cooked, take it out of the sauce and let it cool.
  4. Finally, after it has cooled, pull the pork apart.  The sauce in the pot can be blended if you want a smooth bbq sauce or it can be eaten as is.This pulled pork is excellent on a potato roll, on top of pizza with red onion and cilantro, or in a quesadilla with red onion and cilantro.  Honestly, it is good on or in anything.
